City of Malibu Awards Small Business Micro Stabilization Grants to Support Recovery Efforts
(Malibu, CA) — The Malibu Administration and Finance Subcommittee has awarded 46 grants through the Small Business Micro Stabilization Grant Program. The grants, ranging from $2,500 to $15,000, are designed to support Malibu’s small businesses recovering from impacts of the wildfires and the prolonged closure of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).
The Malibu City Council gave the Administration and Finance Subcommittee the authority to select awardees based on specific criteria. The grant recipients met all eligibility requirements and clearly demonstrated their commitment to remain operational and support the public good.
“This is a major step forward for the Malibu business community, and we’re proud to support these incredible recipients,” said Mayor Marianne Riggins. “Every applicant was deserving, and while we couldn’t award everyone, we’re committed to continuing our local business support through both regional partnerships and direct assistance.”
Categories of those awarded include Food Service, Retail, Health and Wellness, Beauty Service, Hospitality, Cleaning Service, and Design Services. These local businesses can use their awarded funds for a wide range of recovery-related expenses, including lease or rent payments, equipment replacements, marketing, and more.
The City launched the grant program in late April, allocating $300,000 from the General Fund. The application period was open from Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 31, and the City received a total of 157 applications requesting $2,816,762 in funding.
The City will begin distributing funds and tracking the impact of the program. For more resources available to local businesses, visit the Malibu Small Business Resources webpage.
