The Malibu Administration and Finance Subcommittee has awarded 46 grants through the Small Business Micro Stabilization Grant Program. The grants, ranging from $2,500 to $15,000, are designed to support Malibu’s small businesses recovering from impacts of the wildfires and the prolonged closure of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).
Categories of those awarded include Food Service, Retail, Health and Wellness, Beauty Service, Hospitality, Cleaning Service and Design Services. These local businesses can use their awarded funds for a wide range of recovery-related expenses, including lease or rent payments, equipment replacements, marketing, and more.
The City launched the grant program in late April, allocating $300,000 from the General Fund. The application period was open from Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 31, and the City received a total of 157 applications requesting $2,816,762 in funding.

The Malibu City Council has not approved a second round of grants; however, the City is working closely with partner agencies such as Los Angeles County Supervisor Horvath, Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity, Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), United States Small Business Administration and other local partners to bring additional resources to Malibu. We encourage you to explore additional funding opportunities, such as the Malibu-Topanga Business Interruption Fund and others listed on our website at MalibuRebuilds.org/Small-
The City received a total of 157 applications requesting $2,816,762 in funding, the Malibu Administration and Finance Subcommittee was only able to award 46 grants through the Small Business Micro Stabilization Grant Program totaling $300,000. The need exceeded the amount of funding allocated which demonstrates the impact on small businesses in our community and we’re committed to continuing our local business support through both regional partnerships and direct assistance. Additional consideration was given to small businesses with more than 2 employees.
The selection process was guided by eligibility criteria approved at the July 14, 2025, Malibu City Council meeting. Final decisions were made by the City Council Administration and Finance Subcommittee at the direction of the Malibu City Council at its July 21, 2025 and July 30, 2025 Administration and Finance Subcommittee meetings, agendas can be found here: www.malibucity.org/agendacenter.
